About the Installation

Originally commissioned as a temporary installation for The Arts Commission's Momentum Festival in 2019, You Are Doing Great quickly became one of Toledo's most beloved public artworks. Featuring You Are Doing Great on one side and You Are Beautiful on the other, the sculpture created two distinct experiences depending on where visitors encountered it.

When construction of the Glass City Riverwalk required the original sculpture to be removed, the community's response made something remarkable happen. Rather than disappearing, plans were made to recreate the artwork as a permanent installation using aluminum, ACM, and vinyl so it could continue welcoming residents and visitors for decades to come.

Installed at International Cove along the Glass City Riverwalk in 2026, the new sculpture stands as a testament to what can happen when a community embraces public art. Of all the projects I've been fortunate to create, this remains one of the most meaningful. Seeing a temporary artwork return because people genuinely wanted it back is an incredible honor and a reminder that public art becomes most successful when it truly belongs to the community.
